As part of National Heritage Week, visitors can enjoy a complimentary guided tour of Vandeleur Walled Garden with regular garden admission on Tuesday 18th & Thursday 20th August 2026 at 11:00am.
Join our expert gardener for a fascinating journey through the history of the Vandeleur estate and discover the story behind one of County Clare’s most beautiful horticultural attractions. Learn about the garden’s remarkable restoration, its evolving landscape, and some of the unique plant collections that thrive here today. Visitors paying regular garden admission will also enjoy access to our new Legacy Exhibition in the Visitor Centre.

The Vandeleur Walled Garden Legacy Exhibition
The Frank O’Connor Butterfly Collection & Vandeleur-Phelps Fireplace Installation
Vandeleur Walled Garden & Visitor Centre has officially opened a new, permanent exhibition space, which houses both The Vandeleur-Phelps Fireplace Installation and The Frank O’Connor Butterfly Collection. This new exhibition room allows us to honour both the cultural legacy of the Vandeleur family and the lifelong dedication of Frank O’Connor to the natural world. Come see the historic Vandeleur-Phelps Fireplace, commissioned in 1864 by John Lecky Phelps of Waterpark House, Clonlara, as a wedding gift for his bride Rosetta Anne Vandeleur. And feast your eyes upon the dazzling butterfly collection of Frank O’Connor, a naturalist and advocate for wildlife who spent decades observing and recording the birds, butterflies, and habitats of West Clare. Open now for all to enjoy. Accessibly every day from 10am – 5pm in the Visitor Centre.
